Karen Romano worked for 30 years as a Polk County district court judge in the largest city in Iowa. She witnessed the failures of the ethics system to protect those must vulnerable, particularly women.

JEFF NOBLE,
PROSECUTING ATTORNEY

Jeff Noble prosecuted hundreds of high profile cases as an assistant polk county attorney. Many of these cases were sexual assaults, homicides or sex crimes involving women and/or children. Jeff is well aware of the dynamics of power, manipulation and coercion when it comes to gendered crimes.

Gillian Chadwick is a researcher and professor of law at Washbrun University and a former Women’s Law & Public Policy Fellow at Georgetwon University Law Center. She has spent years researching cases of attorneys who sexually harass and abuse their clients, and in 2022 published an article entitled “Time’s Up for Attorney-Client Sexual Violence” in the Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender, and Class.

MISSY
“I'M A VICTIM. I THINK SURVIVORS GET SOME SORT OF JUSTICE AND I NEVER GOT ANY."
Missy was sexually assaulted, battered, and hospitalized by her attorney in 2012. The grievance commission found he had committed ethical violations. He pled guilty to criminal charges that were filed against him for assaulting Missy. A civil jury awarded Missy $498,000 in damages for his actions. Missy has never seen a dime and her attorney still represents vulnerable clients today.

MICHELLE
“PART OF ME WISHES HE HAD KILLED ME THAT DAY SO THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH THE JUSTICE SYSTEM."
An attorney was appointed to represent Michelle in 2013 when she was facing fabricated criminal charges by her abusive spouse and facing the loss of custody of her child. At 21-years-old, three days before trial, her court-appointed attorney sexually assaulted her in his office. He still practices today.
